The Sleeping Tree

Bedridden Amina has cerebral palsy and her parents, Jassim and Noora, must ensure that she receives proper care. Noora stays at home to take care of her daughter, but Jassim’s refusal to participate in family life heightens the tensions within the family. At the legendary Tree of Life, he is mesmerised by his passengers’ attraction to the tree and is overwhelmed by the surroundings. In an unexpected convergence of experiences, life appears to regain purpose. However, Jassim and Noora’s happiness is fleeting and their marriage is tested yet again.

Kirsten Johnson

Kirsten Johnson graduated from Brown University in 1987, with a BA in Fine Arts and Literature. After two years in West Africa working on local fiction and documentary film projects. Since graduating from the FEMIS cinematography department in 1994, she has directed 4 shorts and works frequently as a cinematographer.

A Bahraini filmmaker who has directed and produced a number of films most of which have been shown at various international film festivals around the world. His foray into the filmmaking world first found its impetus in 2006 when he developed a 32-minute film "Between Them".

An eleven-year-old boy and a fighting dog develop a strong relationship after the boy finds the dog wounded in a ditch, left to die.

Sara

A screenwriter and a director are working on a film about Sara, a Palestinian girl in one of Gaza’s refugee camps, who is a victim of an “honour killing”. The screenwriter is unable to write an ending that is both compelling and fictitious – the happy ending that he had hoped for. Meanwhile, the director, who is insistent on upholding the truth, is as keen to end his film, as he is to help his friend, who is deeply affected by Sara’s story. The film presents the different sides of Gaza, whose people are hurt by everyday issues as much as by death.

cinema in Russia , and trained at FOJO institute in Sweden,

he has extensive experience in media production and trainer in filmmaking

The Gate of Departure

“You, who have always been here, you will be everywhere.” A prophecy that has always haunted a son growing to manhood in his mother's desolated home. The son is unable to begin his journey beyond the boundaries of these walls repressed by feelings of guilt towards his mother, who chooses to imprison herself for the rest of her life, guarding her only son as she helplessly witnesses her beauty slipping away day by day.

Karim Hanafy

Karim Hanafy was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1977. He earned a degree in philosophy from Cairo University in 2002 and began working as an Assistant Director for television, theater, documentaries and short films. In 2005, he directed his debut short film with independent production Too Late.
